We strongly recommend the implementation of hardware based firewalls to secure your network. Software firewalls are NOT recommended. Firewalls prevent unauthorised traffic from gaining access to your PC/Network. TCP/IP networks, such as internet have a huge number of virtual ports that are used by different services, such as web access, email or file sharing applications. Firewalls will block unused ports and monitor those that are open to ensure only authorised traffic is allowed. In addition to blocking ports, a firewall will also hide or 'stealth' those ports so even if a hacker program scans your IP address it won't see anything. Bellow graphics illustrates a properly layed out and secured network.

These days we are faced with a multitude of dangers that attack every possible entry point of your computer system/network. This means just having anti-virus solution in place without a adequate firewall, is no longer an option keeping your computer network safe. Furthermore, as 'malware' or any software written with malicious intent, is becoming more commercialy motivated, there is more reason than ever before to make sure your computer network is protected.

Don't let yourself be the next victom. As a Watchguard® Security Partner we offering state of the art firewall solutions.

Currently known threats:

Virus
will typically infect a host file, which is usually another executable file such as another program. When the infected file is run, the virus attempts to infect other files, or spread to another system.

Worm
is even more insidious. It doesn't necessarily infect another executable and it doesn't need a user to run the file in order for it to spread. A worm takes advantage of vulnerabilities in networking and application code to automatically replicate over a network.

Trojan Horse
curently causing havoc these days. As the name suggests, a trojan horse poses as another program, but contains malicious code that runs in the background. Trojan can include things such as "key loggers" that sniff for passwords or other personal information or dialers that secretely dial a far away country potentialy costing you thousands of dollars. Also a trojan could open a back door that can be used later by a hacker to gain access to your network/PC or could launch denial of service (DoS) attack using thousands of infected computers on the net. Scary stuff!

Spyware
another type of malware that installs itself without your knowledge....very annoying. One example is adware, which monitors your internet browsing habits, then reports back to a central server to tailor advertising to you. These ads then appear as pop ups while you are browsing and are very irritating.
